This is one of the worlds longest running offshore powerboat races. action packed with very rough conditions this year causing the boats to almost spend more time in the air than in the water. By the 1980s – a decade most boaters consider the heyday of offshore powerboat racing – movie stars and international royalty faced off on the open ocean. as popular as these boats were with the people who raced them, they were also enormously useful to the people who used them to bring cocaine and other drugs to u.s. shores.. John raced offshore uim class 3 in the 1980’s & 1990’s. he served as the cowes torquay cowes event director for 4 years, including running the 50 th anniversary event in 2010. he has recently organised 4 british offshore races under ukopra sanction. he is the editor of powerboat racing world..
